Just like that, in the wink, blink
or crimp of an eye..
We walk straight, but with a bit of a limp.
We think we are still really young, but secretly we can tell the difference.
We listen to new songs, but we feel a warm embrace with the old ones.
We need reading glasses to see writing even if our lives depended on it.
The world is upside down, broken and bankrupt, yet the beauty remains.
The clock says 550, but it feels like 10pm.
There are way more years gone than are still to come, still, we feel…Invincible?
I don’t know about that, but
something in the realm of emotion.
We always look ahead, we simply twist around sometimes just to have a laugh.
We have walked the thin line, we have held on to the ledge, we have been smacked, kissed, unceremoniously left alone, embraced by strangers and stayed at the bar a bit too long.
We see the pollution and we sense the pain. The famine of humanity is spreading as morality has been lowered into the ground.
It’s dusty, it’s dirty and the broken shards of dreams, hopes and best intentions, await us on the floor.
The trees are bare, the grass is brown and the radio has no reception.
With each sunrise, the birds still sing and somehow, we rise from our beds.
Through it all…
Still, I believe… The best is yet to come
